We’re back with another BOTM (Breaker of the Month). This is the first award given since the BOTM championship which took place at the Bradford Brawl 2 breakin (breakdance) event. We saw 8 of the hardest working bboys/bgirls in the Tranquil Productions family, go head to head to decide who would be crowned ‘Breaker of the Year’ and take their place on the Tranquil Productions Cup. Bgirl Fox took the win against bboy 1k in the final and became Breaker of the Year.

Congratulations to bgirl Abbie from Blaze crew in Pontefract. Abbie has been working hard for months on end and has consistently been improving at a steady rate. Abbie is relatively new to the breakin scene but she trains hard and supports her crew members, she has not let her passion fade since she began breakin and we feel this award is definitely deserved.

Abbie has been working hard on the foundations of the dance and she is the only person to win the award who has been breakin for less than 2 years. Since Abbie joined Blaze crew she has repped her crew at two major events, the Bradford Brawl 2 and at Tech Styles 4 in the 2v2 with her partner bgirl Crazy, watch below. She is just starting to develop her style and it’s exciting to see what kind of bgirl she will become.

Abbie has great potential and displays all the characteristics that make a great bgirl. We hope she continues on this path and that this award will also encourage her to push her limits in preparation for the Breaker of the Month Championship later this year. Big respect to the newcomer who is showing she’s got what it takes to be the best!

Now we are in 2018 we have a clean slate and Breaker of the Month is open once again, ready to be awarded to bboys and bgirls throughout the Tranquil Productions family. There are 3 main criteria for winning this award along with other factors. To help you get some insight into how the winners are selected, we’ll give you some inside knowledge.

  1. The first criteria is training hard and showing a consistent pattern of hard work and commitment, a bboy or bgirl must be putting in the most effort amongst the other breakers in the family, this is constantly monitored.
  2. The second criteria is level of improvement. We take a look at all the dancers on an individual level and measure their personal level of improvement, those with the greatest increase have more chance of being crowned BOTM.
  3. The final factor that is important for gaining BOTM is attitude. To gain the award bboys/bgirls must show the correct characteristics; helping others, supporting their crew, being disciplined and self-reliant are important factors of being a successful bboy/bgirl. Having the wrong attitude e.g. being arrogant, selfish, not supporting your crew, not being respectful towards others, unwillingness to learn and becoming big headed will remove any chances of being awarded Breaker of the Month.

To gain this award the dancers must tick the box for each of the criteria and on many occasions there are a handful of dancers that do. When there are a few dancers close to gaining the award it can be a very hard decision to pick who will win the award, we focus in on the dancers and wait for something that will tip the scales in someone’s favour. In these instances even the smallest positive action can make all the difference.
